Research internship R&D – Smart Bobbin Loading System
Are you looking for a meaningful internship where you can make a difference? Join us at VMI and work on developing an innovative automatic bobbin loading system!
At VMI, we use creels for unwinding bobbins with steel cords into the extruders for the production of a steel belt. Loading of bobbins onto the creel is currently performed manually, which is a heavy and time-consuming task for the operator. Our goal is to develop a system for automatic bobbin loading. To achieve this, the shaft of the brake unit in the creel must be detected and located so that a manipulator can push the bobbin onto the shaft.
VMI R&D offers an enthusiastic and inspiring working environment. VMI R&D has a lot of facilities for doing tests and collect data.
You will be working in the R&D Extrusion Cutters & Flexx department with 23 colleagues. This group consists of 9 Mechanical Engineers, 8 Control Engineers, 2 Electrical Engineers, a Release Engineer, 2 Technical Projectleaders and a trainee.
We are looking for an intern to conduct research on an automatic bobbin loading system.
The assignment includes the following tasks (can be revised in consultation with you):
- Detection Systems: Develop concepts for possible detection systems (e.g., Kesselring analysis, reviews).
- Solution Development: Investigate the most suitable solution.
- Testing: Conduct simple tests, if necessary, to verify the concept.
- Functionality Description: Describe the functionality of the system.
- Software Development: Develop the necessary software for the system.
- Implementation: Test the system on a creel at VMI.
The challenge is that the shafts in the creel are not always in fixed positions, as the creel itself can move. Additionally, the shafts can deform over their lifetime in production, causing the end of the shaft to move out of its original position. The required detection tolerances are ± 1 mm, making this task particularly demanding.
- A Bachelor or Master student software engineering, electrical engineering, or a similar field.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently.
- You are looking for an internship from September or February.
- You are available for at least 5 months, for 32 to 40 hours per week. It is possible to work on the assignment partly from home.
We give you the opportunity to join a cozy team for at least 5 months. You will have the opportunity to carry out challenging research in which you can add real value to the organization. For this internship you will receive an internship allowance that you can expect from a leading company and a travel allowance.
In addition to our own internship program, you will have the opportunity to participate in a Master Class at Perron038.
These Masterclasses are organized each time by different companies and relate to soft skills, but can for example also be about LinkedIn, project management and job application tips.
VMI is one of the partners at innovation center Perron038 in Zwolle. Various technical companies work together here in the field of Technology and they share knowledge and experiences with each other in an inspiring environment. At the training sessions & Tuesday afternoon drinks at Perron038 you will also meet students from the other companies in the region. Want to know more about Perron038? Read more
