Stage

Fulltime & Parttime
Introduction

From September 2024 we have an internship available for a student with a bachelor or master’s in electrical engineering. Your challenge is to develop an inventory of the hardware available on the market, which also needs to be investigated whether there are possibilities to do this wirelessly (via WiFi). In this study, aspects such as cost price, installation, reliability, sensitivity in the field of EMC are taken into account. A choice based on a selection method and a test with the chosen solution is part of this investigation.

Department

The product department R&D Extrusion, Cutters and Flexx is responsible for the development of flexible machines for breaker and body-ply materials for the tire building industry. Using extrusion technology is emerging in this industry. The development of this is an important part of the production process of breakers and body-plies and with the strip wrapping process of car tires.

This department is also responsible for the management and maintenance of the “standard” of our machines in our portfolio. We support other departments such as Sales and Production and we work together with different R&D departments on projects in cross-functional teams. Within R&D Extrusion, Cutters and Flexx we work with 25 professionals. The team consists of Mechanical Engineers, Software Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Process Engineers and a Technical Writer.

VMI R&D offers a enthusiastic and inspiring working environment. VMI will provide the required software and ICT requirements (laptop) to work on the problem. VMI R&D provides multiple extruders which can be used for testing. Together with a software / test engineer, tests can be executed.

What are you going to do?

VMI is developing a new concept for the Creel which is based on modular building blocks. Depending on the number of bobbin positions, the creel is constructed from several modular building blocks. Each bobbin has 1 sensor that checks the movement. These sensors now come in on 2 Field IO blocks. The goal is to bundle the sensors within a building block where the costs of the hardware and electrical installation must be as low as possible. It must also be easy to connect these building blocks to a central cabinet.

Your assignment:

  • Make concept proposals (Kesselring analysis; Reviews etc);
  • Investigation of the most sustainable solution.
  • May be some simple tests are required to verify the concept.
  • Hardware Engineering of chosen concept.
What do we offer?

You are given the change to learn within a cosy team for 6 months. Your research will be of added value for the organization. You will receive a compensation for this internship and compensation for travel costs. Other benefits:

  • VMI R&D offers a enthusiastic and inspiring working environment.
  • VMI will provide the required software and ICT requirements (laptop) to work on the problem.
  • VMI R&D has a workshop to do some tests. If required tests can be done together with a software / test engineer.
