The Engineering, Quality & Process Development department of VMI is looking for an intern to start in February 2026 to complete a research assignment. In this assignment, you will investigate the question: ‘How should VMI approach version control of machine control software?’.
Your internship will take place in the Engineering, Quality & Process Development department, where you will be part of a team of 17 employees. The culture on this department is open and friendly. Here you will closely collaborate with the two Control Software Coordinators and you will have the opportunity to meet colleagues of other engineering departments as well.
You will answer the following question through research: ‘How should VMI approach version control of machine control software?’.
The world of PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) is moving closer and closer towards the world of application software engineering where GIT (Global Information Tracker) is the standard to do version control. There is a big overlap between the two worlds, but there are also major differences. What can we learn from that? Can we apply the same principles? There are multiple tools in the market to support version control for PLCs, but which one is the most suitable? You can do a deep dive into this topic and advise us the best option to shape the future with.
The following tasks are included:
